GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Graduate University of Science and Technology (GUST) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) is a public educational institution established under Decision No. 1691/QD-TTg on September 22nd, 2014 of the Prime Minister with the functions of training Masters and Doctors in natural sciences and technology, conducting scientific research and projects for developing human resources in science and technology.

GUST was established and based on organizing and rearranging 19 training institutions which are specialized research institutes under VAST, aiming to unify the management of postgraduate training and at the same time improve the effectiveness of research activities through postgraduate training. GUST has been assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize specialized training with 48 doctoral-level majors and 18 master-level majors in the fields of natural science and technology research such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics and Automation, Biotechnology, Materials Science, Earth Science, Ecology and Biological Resources, Environmental Technology, Marine Science and Technology, Information Technology and Telecommunications.

GUST holds the unified executive role in the organization and management of training activities, based on the association and cooperation between GUST and training coordination units, which are specialized research institutes under VAST, to promote the advantages of human resources as well as modern and synchronous equipment in training and scientific research.

Currently, GUST has 9 Faculties: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, Mechanics and Automation, Materials Science, Environmental and Energy Technology, Information Technology and Telecommunications. The number of permanent and adjunct lecturers in GUST is over 800, of which nearly 300 are Professors/Associate Professors and more than 500 are Doctors/Doctors of Science
